  E-Conference Welcome & Introduction
Climate Change and You: Putting a Face on Global Warming
19-28 October 2009

Welcome to the EcoRes Forum "Climate Change and You" E-Conference!

As your facilitator, I'm excited to share the dual platform with you and eager to see where our discussion leads.               [DETAILS: NEW DUAL TRACK FORMAT]

Purpose
The purpose of this series is to provide an easily accessible platform for moderated discussions among global stakeholders on the sociocultural aspects of climate change. Our exchange will be based around a framework of topics that fall within the scope of the e-conf. For this final discussion, in the spirit of learning to adapt to ongoing changes, we’re trying something new: Our intent is to go organic, following the interests of the participants, rather than the confines of a formal agenda. Archives will be accessible online throughout the event.

Getting started
As we begin, I invite you to share a brief introduction about yourself and your interests in the participant Coffee Shop. What brings you here? What do you hope to take away from these discussions? While we know some participants from previous activities, there are many new faces and names to learn.

The Forum is honored to have so many participants from such varied disciplines joining the roster: Our group includes representatives from the public and private sectors, from governmental and non-governmental organizations, and from for- and not-for-profit ventures around the globe. We appreciate your participation; such varied perspectives are sure to enrich these proceedings.

I encourage all participants to join the discussion as it unfolds. Regardless of your background or perspective, as a personal stakeholder in these issues, your input is valuable. Joining us are those both new and experienced: from experts who have made substantial contributions in their fields, both theoretical and practical, to those just coming on board who will no doubt leave their mark in much the same fashion. These are the initial boundaries we must cross: Thank you for being a part of this transdisciplinary initiative!

I hope you enjoy the discussions. Once again, welcome one and all, and thank you for joining us: I look forward to getting to know you!

Mary Leyser, E-Conf Facilitator
