Algology, holistic analysis of ecosystem functions, dynamic controls and responses of planktonic algae, impact reduction of algal growth in reservoirs
London-born algology expert Professor Colin Reynolds knows the world of planktonic algae inside and out. Following studies at the University of London, in 1970 Professor Reynolds joined the Windermere Laboratory of the Freshwater Biological Association, where his outstanding research included the dynamics of the phytoplankton of both eutrophic meres (lakes) and rivers, Blelham Tarn and the “Lund Tubes”, the interdisciplinary holistic analysis of aquatic ecosystems and the development of ecosystem theory and simulation models for the management of these ecosystems.
Author of more than 250 publications in his field and a member of the Institute of Freshwater Ecology, Reynolds’ findings have been widely applied through- out the academic world as well as within the water industry. Prior to his 2002 retirement Professor Reynolds shared his internationally recognized work as Honorary Visiting Professor at the University of Reading and the University of Buenos Aires.
Setting an admirable example for all to follow, in addition to his personal career interests Professor Reynolds has long been active in the public service arena. As part of his civil efforts, In 1992 Reynolds served as Mayor of his England hometown. Highlights of Professor Reynolds’ extensive honors include: CEH Honorary Fellow; former President, Freshwater Biological Association; FBA Honorary Fellow; EEIU Fellow; ECI Prize, Limnetic Ecology; and much more.
The EcoRes Forum is delighted to welcome Professor Colin Reynolds to the April E-Conference Panel of Experts and wishes to recognize his lifelong contributions in the field of limnetic ecology.
